The Earrings That Danced With Dreams
They weren’t the most expensive earrings I owned. Not even close.
Just a simple pair of oxidized silver jhumkas I had picked from a street market during my college days in Jaipur. The kind that swings with every step you take, chiming softly like they’re whispering secrets only you can hear.
I remember the day I bought them—bargaining with the vendor while juggling books, sipping on roadside chai, and dreaming of a future that felt both terrifying and thrilling. I wasn’t earning then, but I knew I wanted them. I had this strange feeling that they would become more than just a piece of jewelry.
And they did.
They became my lucky charm.
I wore them the day I presented my first paper in front of a big crowd. My hands were shaking, but those jhumkas dangled with confidence, reminding me to speak up and stand tall.
I wore them during my first job interview, when I had nothing but dreams and determination in my bag.
And I wore them on random days too—when I just wanted to feel like myself again amidst the rush of adult responsibilities.
Years passed. I collected fancier pieces—gold, diamonds, custom designs. But these silver earrings? They remained my go-to whenever I needed strength, or a touch of my younger, bolder self.
A few months ago, I saw my daughter trying them on in front of the mirror.
She twirled around, laughing, the jhumkas swaying with her rhythm.
“Can I have these, Ma?” she asked.
I smiled.
Not because she wanted to wear something pretty—but because I knew she was ready to write her own story with them.
Just like I had.
Now, they dance with her dreams.
Jewelry doesn’t always come with a price tag—it often comes with a memory. A turning point. A piece of who you are.
